Gates Lumber is a family-owned custom millwork company located in Memphis, Tennessee since 1920. We specialize in all types of stock and custom wood products. Gates Lumber Company has been located in mid-town Memphis, Tennessee for over 80 years. Founded by P.A. Gates in 1920, Gates was purchased by North Memphis Lumber in 1955. George Buzard, who was employed by North Memphis, bought the company in 1985. A family business, his son Bobby is active in sales and operations; daughter Ginny Nabors is comptroller and brother Jack is in charge of personnel and purchasing. Not content with continuing in the past, Gates Lumber Company has state of the art equipment to produce the best millwork anywhere. We have 2 WEINIG moulders, a UNIMAT 23 and a PROFIMAT 23. These are supported by a WEINIG RONDAMAT 934 pattern knife grinder. WEINIG'S AXIL CONSTANT SYSTEM makes complicated patterns easy to reproduce. Whether 40 lft of special crown in an older home being restored or 3,000 lft of stock base for a multi-family project, WEINIG makes it happen. Our Norfield 4000 door machine and 4100 frame assembler makes production runs of 200 units a snap. A MIKRON 645 MULTI MOULDER for radius trim, a TIMESAVER 100 sander and other up to date equipment compliments the millwork production package. To facilitate order entry and inventory control, Gates uses WOODWARE SYSTEMS' Unix based computer system. Our fleet of 2 ton vans rolling everyday bring this quality millwork to our customers. Every step of the way, Gates is 21st Century current while not forgetting our historic past. As our slogan states "Your Gateway to Quality and Service" means just that. Carl Smith, estimator and draftsman with Gates for 25 years, can custom design one-of-a-kind mantels, doors, entertainment centers, cabinets, and endless types of moulding for residential, commercial, or industrial applications. "When an architect or builder calls me with a special request, I make it a workable item", says Smith. By "workable", Smith means he does what it takes to make sure the item fills the design request and meets his own quality standards. What if a client likes a particular crown pattern, but it doesn't work with the 10-foot ceilings they are planning? No problem. Carl can alter the design to make it fit any space or architectural format. |
